Olympic Road Race? Booyah! & Other Cool $#!^

Got back from Camp Pendleton exhausted. It took me a few days to recover from Fridays long day. I was given an opportunity to work about 2 months at Camp Pendleton but declined. I have responsibilities with my daughter and with the schedule I would only be with her on Saturdays as it would have been a Monday through Friday schedule. It was going to be office type job. Nothing medical.

The old man "Vino" takes the Olympic road race title. Uran pretty much got caught with his "pants down" as he started the sprint far too late. Taylor Phinney delivered very well, however that close to the finish line they should not have sat up and let 2 riders get away. I just caught the last few minutes of the race on You Tube. Why is it that it is so hard to see video of events lately. TV companies just really limit the viewers. I will never understand. However you can catch the "crappy" highlights here - Men's Road Race. No highlights or much on the Women;s Road Race at the time.

New TV series based on Area 51 is heading to AMC. May be "right up my alley!". Yes, I believe in extraterrestrial life forms and the possibility of contact made. Not to mention time travel and mysteries in the Moon (There go most of my friends). Also check out the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D memos at Memos From Nick Fury.

Don't forget that today is the official "Don't Be A Dick Day" and it lasts until midnight tonight. So hang in there. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Thanks to IO9 For posting these awesome recruiting propaganda.

Done Here But Not Done There.

My duty at Camp Pendleton has come to a conclusion. It started rather boring, as most of my duty here has been standing watch on a patient. I do it with no complaints. Someone has to do it. Just stupid knowing there is additional staff that can handle this job letting me concentrate on patients and  learn and brush up on skills. However a few nights later we were so busy on the floor that it was non stop work for over 12 hours. I pretty much got to do a little bit and see a little bit of everything, from good to bad. I always get a little attached to a patient and this time was the wife of a Marine Captain. I did get used to the night shift rather quickly. I actually prefer this shift over any other shift.

Looks like my buddy "J" is not done yet. He never will and that is a truly good thing. My buddy "J" decided to go out and do a 40k time trial. All I got back in reply was that he didn't go fast. Really! There I was following the news streams seeing if any 40k time trial world records have fallen. Those days are over. You can't just go out and try to pull of a decent 40k time in the shape he is. At my age now I do sort of admire those 40 year old guys going out training daily and hammering at races. I should pull out my road bike and get some riding done one day. I have no excuses.

In the area I was staying is home of the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion. Pictured is one of the many AmTracs. Wish I have gotten a picture of them doing drills in the bay. These things are awesome.

Stupid Is As Stupid Does. Wait, That's Me Also.

Forgot to mention last time about my best friend "J" on his 12 Hours At Night race in Prescott, AZ. The whole event was pretty much wet and I'm sure miserable. Seems he still has a bit of "stupid" in him left. Wait, I too have a bit of "stupid" in me. "J" and Scott Golden took a third place in the event. I do miss my bikes. It wouldn't take much to talk me into this. I've been known to have done a few of these type of events. Nothing beats the feeling of riding single-track at night and being one with the trail and dancing with the curves.

Came home for 2 days to spend with Natalia and back to finish my AT at Camp Pendleton. Funny thing is I always bitch about going but in a day or two I become attached to the place and miss it already. Just trying to stay busy and fighting exhaustion on the long night shifts.

Hearing the roaring sounds of the Chinook and Super Stallion helicopters, to use a better word excite me. Just the massive size and sound. Watching them hover and drop off marines and and quickly gain altitude. Wow. But my days here consist of a hospital. A few more nights here and a bunch of days off. I love working here.

Reading a little of HP Lovecraft's The Call Of Cthulhu And Other Weird Tales. Still not reading as much as I would have wanted and already behind on Leviathan Wakes.

AT Time

When you see this parked in the supermarket parking lot. You are here. Well, Annual Training time is here. Staying on base this year in Del Mar. Was hoping to stay off-base but not to be. I will be working nights for the first time. Just not enough Corpsmen on staff lately and they were low on the night crew. It will take some adjusting. We all have to work at night at one point.

The first night was light for me. which is good. Getting adjusted to how things are done. As always I find a patient I get a little too attached to. But with not working as many day this year I will not be there as much. I can't complain. Quiet nights and not so many work days.

Took a nice route down here this year all through Laguna, Dana Point and all these beautiful towns and scenery. I forgot how nice it can be in this area of Southern California. Stopped by San Clemente to see an old friend but he wasn't around. Left a message at his work. He will be surprised to hear from me. It has been far too long.

Yet another cool movie coming out that I came across. Check our ParaNorman

New Wizard Of Oz Movie!

Had to post this. Very excited to see films take this turn of retelling another angles of classics. I am a big fan of the Oz books as I read many of them. Hope this movie incorporates a bit from each book in telling the tale of the land of Oz and how the Wizard came to be.

Thunderstorms! I Missed Them.

Actually got a little rain in Running Springs on Thursday afternoon. By Thursday night we got the thunderstorms promised. I just wished they were during the day so I could have admired them. Quick question - In the picture you see a road and what seems to be thunderstorms to the right. Where would you head?

This week I have found myself "financially strapped". Nothing new lately for me. I find it a challenge. But wish I could put some saving away to start to pay off some people whom helped me greatly last year. You just wonder where all the money just goes. So no Comic Con for me this year. I was hoping to go for a day to San Diego. Maybe next year.

Haven't gotten as much reading done as I would have wanted. Want to finish this book for the Sword & Laser book club. Hope while at Camp Pendleton I can do lots reading and maybe keep moving through Diablo 3.

Not keeping up with the Tour this year as I was hoping. Since all the streams get pulled off the internet it is hard to watch the event. As of today looks like Bradley Wiggins will win this years edition. I was hoping to see Cadel Evans take the Yellow again this year but he lost some time on the "Etapa Reina".

Pretty bad and geeky I guess as I eagerly await this Friday for the new Table Top Gaming episode from the Geek & Sundry Channel. That's my geeky side but I have no problems sharing. Funny thing is there are many out there the same that just hide such things from others. Why?

Download the latest Sword & Laser Podcast, and don't forget to catch the Wilson Tech 1 Videos. Lamar is moving to L.A. Why? But, welcome to California.

4th Of July To Forget. London! Wait!

Well I spent the 4th of July with "ex" drama. I was suppose to have Natalia at 10pm on the 4th but she refused to drop her off. Even after me pointing out page and line on the schedule, she's still too stupid to read. I decided not to spend the rest of the night with the police at her dad's house. It really makes no difference as the police will do nothing. I did pick her up as usual on Thursday and she had an minor injury to her eye which my ex dismissed as nothing.

Drill weekend over. Again as usual tons of work, but this weekend more than usual. Pretty much all alone a whole day taking care of physicals, blood draws and immunizations. I was actually tired at the end of the day. But I do it proudly. I am one of the very few versatile enough to do every job in the clinic. Got news that I was transferred to another unit. Still part of OHSU Det D out of Camp Pendleton but I have to report to duty next year at EMF Great Lakes, Illinois (correction - for my 2 week annual training). Back to Navy country in Great Lakes. It will suck in the beginning. New place and faces.

Bad news for Anthony Zahn as he tried to take on a car and as usual lost the fight. He will be OK but injuries like these so close to London is not good. I know his spirits are high and this by far will not stop this hard headed boy.

Watching the Tour online didn't last long. Seems like all the streams online are being blocked. When will big media realize that the more people watching the better for them and their sponsors. They rather pay millions in rights and later block viewers so less people watch. Go figure. A couple of big crashes have already changed the chemistry of this race. Some of the overall favorites have already been taken out of the calculation. The sprinters delivered and the first mountain stage was explosive.

On a side note. We lost Andy Griffith as well as Ernest Borgnine this past week. Television lost some of its greats. Tehy no longer make them like these two.

I share one of the No Agenda podcast covers. You deserve to know the truth.

Check out the latest Sword & Laser Episode. There are now 2 episodes. The normal show and the book club discussion.

Celebrate! The Future Looks Grim.

Spending time watching the Tour de France. I managed to watch 3 days a day delayed without knowing the results. It is very hard to stay off the news, but that didn't last long. Thus far no complaints. Just wish I could watch it on my big screen. A Tour of the "Old Guys" as we see Cadel Evans defending title at his age. Have Chris Horner at 40 keep pounding the pavement and George Hincapie ride his historic 17th Tour. I had the pleasure to ride with both George and Chris in the past. Who would have guessed George would have accomplished this and Chris at the late age he started cycling be at the top of the game.

For the second time I have put off reading Dark Tower #4 Wizard And Glass and picked up the Sword & Laser monthly pick Leviathan Wakes. Not reading as much as I would want. This week still sick and just get home and do nothing. Not even gaming. Finally watched John Wayne's Hondo and did not find it a good story but as usual he plays his strong manly role.

I will be spending the 4th Of July working. Its "Ok" since I didn't get my daughter this year for the 4th. My ex made sure she bragged about that this week. I don't think she will ever grow up.

Have drill this weekend. The advancement results came in and not many picked up. A congratulations to the new HM2 White. He does deserve the rank as he can take responsibilities. Also to the new HM3s. From Sunday July 15 to the 27th  I will be at Camp Pendleton doing my duty at 4 North as usual. I do hope it goes smooth as usual and I get the days off I want.

Tour Time!

"In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness." - Henry David Thoreau, Walden.

Finished reading Walden by Henry David Thoreau and I believe this book should be read by every person or at the least every person know the contents of the book. Not a teen read as some are forced to read it in high school. It will carry no meaning and the message will not be retained. Especially in today's time. We should all strive to live our day to day lives a little simpler.

Well again a couple of days off and I did need them. Natalia is no longer sick but I still have a bit left to get over my sickness. Again a little drama with the ex as she called my work and got a little crazy with one employee. She just wanted to complaint as usual and to brag she has my daughter for the 4th of July.

Pre-ordered Borderlands 2. I usually never pre-order but the bonus may be worth it. Plus the gift card is always a welcomed addition.

The 2012 Tour De France is on the way with a prologue around Liege. Check out the Tour Preview. I will watch it but not cheering for any specific rider or team. I do hope it is an exciting race and one not so one sided that it is very obvious illegal substances are at play. Thus far it is a bit exciting.
