Going Around & Around In London

Anthony Zahn as I write is in London in the 2012 Paralympics on his first event in the Velodrome. Going around and around he is. Next post will have most if not all his results. I hope he medals again in some if not all events.

New DLC announced for Skyrim. Called Hearthfire and due to release September 4, it doesn't add to gameplay but allows for a full house to be built and furnished to your specs. May download Leviathan, the latest Mass Effect 3 DLC this week. However I haven't been gaming as much. I would however love to find at least one special person to do some table top gaming.

You shouldn't date people from work. So super heroes should not date each other. Super Man & Wonder Woman? What if Quentin Tarantino was to do a DC movie? I think it would be awesome for him to take on the Justice League franchise to hopefully get DC to compete with the Marvel movies. Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series? Whedon is to write and possibly direct the new series. New Phoenix in the Marvel universe? Wrapping up the entertainment news, a look at the Avengers altenate opening scene.

Started to read R.A. Salvatore's latest adventures, Charon's Claw. Thus far a good read with what will seem full of action. Also while browsing Barnes & Noble came across Star Corpsman from Ian Douglas. Must read it as it is not only written by a Corpsman but the main character is a corpsman as well. Also had a friend recommend me Neil Gaiman's Sandman. What a dilemma I have, already had a nice line up of books to read and now this. Thanks.

Planting Of A Tree. Departing Of Courage.

Astronaut Neil Armstrong has passed away at the age of 82 on the 25th of August, 2012. We also lost this week Sally Ride whom was the first female astronaut. Many of us take for granted Neil's accomplishments as well as all the early astronauts. Without their courage and will to expand humanity we could not be where we are today. It is that spirit that affects many of us today.

Well, I fell in love with a tree at Lowe's and stuffed it in the car and took it home. I hope it doesn't die on me. Pictured is Natalia posing in front of it. You can say the tree planting means setting roots in this new house. Took Natalia to Lake Arrowhead to feed the ducks and walk around on Thursday. As usual she wants to come home. After dinner on Thursday Natalia started to show a runny nose and as I write she is a little sick. But that never hampers her spirits.

Finished reading Joe Haldeman's Forever War and loved it. I got into the characters. Makes you think if their war is much like ours and the time travel concepts are great. I have to read Forever Free as it is the true sequel to their story. However it seems impossible to find this book in digital format. Only in print from a few sources. Why is it so hard to find.

Video game season is slowly approaching as the dry days of summer slowly come to an end. First off is the new Transformers Fall Of Cybertron game which is getting good reviews. I did enjoy the previous game and look forward to playing this one.

Cthulhu Screwing Me At Work?

This week has had H.P. Lovecraft's tales hit me a few times. Not only have I been reading some of the tales, but come across him online in this cool Dr. Seuss style picture, but also Table Top decides to play Elder Signs. Coincidence? I think not.

Couldn't resit watching the new Jesse Stone: Benefit Of The Doubt movie. I couldn't find it streaming online so I bought it. Something about Tom Selleck playing this character that I so much like. I wish I carried myself more like his character and not so open and colorful. Also been watching many Humphrey Bogart movies most of the week and I like them.

Have not yet seen Hunger Games. Maybe waiting to see it with that person I promised a while back, as we read the books together.

Finished reading Perelandra and found it a bit hard to read. I must read it again. However I started to read The Forever War as it has gotten praises from Sword & Laser. Short read and hopefully I can get it read quick. Also in between reading stories from the Cthulhu Mythos. Following H.P. Lovecraft's work is a cover I came across of a Call Of Cthulhu version Dr. Seuss style. Sadly I can't find this book in print anywhere online. Just a few digital pages online at the Dr. Faustus AU.

The "gravy train" at work has come to an end. Finally getting screwed in hours again. Amazing I won't get transferred or moved around. I keep getting the same speech, but I move on. I am thankful I have a job in these times. With Cthulhu being the theme this week, I'm getting the feeling his evil powers may have something to do with my work situation

Haven't played any video games in a while but I know once Borderlands 2 comes out, I will be living in the couch. So anyone on XBOX Live that wants to join in hit me up. I know there are many XBOX haters out there. I own a PS3 as well.

The Acorn's Nest? The Acorn's Web?

I believe every house should be named, so finally I came up with two names for my house. Thus far they are "The Acorn's Nest" or "The Acorn's Web". Why?Because of the large amount of acorns all over the place and baby oak trees sprouting everywhere, the birds that come frequent my feeders or the many cobwebs. Which one do you like?

Quiet days with Natalia, as she so much rather be at home. Got a very small amount of rain on Friday and I was hoping as usual for more. Finally got my bookcases for the house. One in Natalia's room and another for my fancy books and movies. Now her room is finally starting to get organized and more floor space for her. It is hard to get her to take pictures.

Anthony Zahn, as I write is in Great Britain and will be competing in the following events: Kilo (Aug 30), Pursuit (Aug 31), Time Trial (Sept 5) and Road Race (Sept 6). You can check out the Paralympics Games online. Looks like their coverage will be better than the NBC coverage. The US Paralympics Website will be streaming with no restrictions.

Looking forward to the arrival of Fall. I know it is still at least a month away. But hopefully with the lowering of temperatures I can get in the mode to start to chop my pile of wood. I just seem to look at it and go back inside. I know I am lazy. Also getting ready for the next few full shifts at work. I'll take the hours while I can. I'm sure in a few weeks with the many changes we all will be getting screwed again.

I was informed of the Save The SciFi site through the Sword & Laser show. Good to see some of these forgotten Pulp SciFi books being digitized. Some have already been but as a member looks like they are free to download.

La Vuelta A Espana is here. For the first time since I can remember it is not only leaving from Euskadi (Basque Country) but spending some days on the region. It would have been more impact for the race if they  entered Euskadi later in the race. Euskadi has a big place in my heart as I spend a few years there and lessons learned there and the culture are forever part of me.

The Little Voice Inside Us.

I need to learn one more lesson in life. I need to learn to listen to that voice inside me. Call it what you want,  that voice is put there for a reason. Not that I have done anything bad. Just that I feel that little voice inside us has a purpose. Hard to believe many of us do not pay attention to it. With my divorce I learned to not fight fate and have faith. This has allowed me to be at peace and not worry so much.

Spent much time away from home these past few days and wishing I had stayed home more. I do like to just chill at home. Call me boring, but that I am not. These next few days with Natalia I will as usual spend at home with her cleaning up and playing with her. Slowly start getting ready for winter. I do have plans on taking her on her first outing with me to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. One of my favorite places in the past before I got married. It became very clear to me the other day that she so much likes to just stay at home and spend time with me. I almost cried a few days ago because of what she told me.

Finished watching the Hatfields & McCoys and it is a must see. I'm sure many true facts were not portrayed as big media loves to alter facts, but still a very good movie.

Yet another awesome movie is coming to us as Quentin Tarantino throws his twist on his new movie, Django Unleashed. My true love for westerns and their strong character creations is well and alive still. I love what he did with Inglorious Bastards and eagerly await to see this film.

Theft Among Sailors? Hell No!

Drill weekend over. As usual super busy. Pretty much all alone in the clinic. Didn't even try to think I would have down time. But got to get some more practice. Sunday was also very hectic. Tons of stuff to get done and almost the whole unit wanting to go play with the M4 rifle. I hate to say this but I don't even want to bother teaching the new guys the job. So many changes lately. It was also great to see the old HM1 stop by from up north. We had a theft of an item which is unacceptable. I am very relaxed guy but when it comes to Sailors stealing from each other, that doesn't fly for me. I do hope outside police gets involved. I know the Chiefs were pissed. I was as well. I hope they find this person and kick him out of the Navy.

Good past few days with rain and thunder. Trying to figure out how to cool off the house during these days. Also had some minor car problems on Sunday morning. At least the problem didn't get expensive. I love the locals up here for the help. It still costed me money but not so much and no headaches. Just when I start to have some extra cash it seems to find its way away from me.

Natalia this weekend almost made me cry. How can a 2 year old look at me in my eyes and tell me that she misses me when I am away. OMG. Also asked me why I don't like her mommy. Already growing up too fast. That is what I dont want to see.

The Mars Curiosity Rover has landed and I thought y'all might get a kick out of the picture.

Continued watching the Hatfields & McCoys and I must say it is good. Tom Berenger, Powers Booth, Bill Paxton and Kevin Costner - 'Nuff said.

They did it. Hollywood has managed to finally remake the awesome movie Red Dawn. The trailer doesn't look awesome. I know the movie will not make the impact the original did. Just hope it does it justice. Very sad Patrick Swayze is not with us to make an appearance on this movie.

It's Hot. In Case You Were Unaware.

As many know the Mars Curiosity Rover has landed and has sent its initial pictures. I have posted one of the pictures it sent back. Why the black out? Is there something the government is already trying to cover up and didn't have time to alter pictures? Hmmmm...

Not much these past few days. Working while no manager wants to scheduling so its a free-for-all. I'm sure it won't last long. Another re-shuffling people around the store so back to square one as usual.

It is hot out. For some reason so many people complaining. Its August in the desert. It is always like this this time of year until mid October. People will always complain.

Picked up the Hatfields & McCoys and thus far good. Also picked up a Humphrey Bogart Collection of his earlier movies. I always find these relaxing.

Finished reading Chronological Man: The Martian Emperor and it was entertaining and I recommend it. The characters alone are worth the read. I expect more and this next time longer. Read the very short story in James SA Corey Expanse trilogy The Butcher of Anderson Station. I was hoping for much longer story but it was a good short story in the legend of Fred Johnson. Decided to continue in C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy with his second book Perelandra.

On the Olympic news. Taylor Phinney again takes a 4th place. This time in the time trial. Not a disappointment at all. I have hope he brings me back to being a fan again. It has been too many years and as long as he stays the way he is he will be a very exciting rider to watch. I know I am not alone.

Geek Alert - Had to share this figure. It is Victor Von Doom unmasked and wielding the Infinity Gauntlet. This is exactly what the next Avengers movie needs.

Finished reading Leviathan Wakes and found it entertaining. I will pick up Caliban's War and continue the story. Decided to read another of Andrew Mayne's Chronological Man's book, The Martian Emperor. A fast read and very much in the spirit of the movie The Day The Earth Stood Still. Mayne also takes liberties with historical people as characters in his stories which makes it exciting to read.

Picked up the movie Big Trail with John Wayne and he has one of the best outfits I have seen. Staying with movie news, Marvel announced the Ant Man movie due 2014. I think it will be good to see this story as he was missing on the initial Avengers movie, but as a stand alone movie? I will not doubt Marvel Studios. Not ending there, Judge Dredd is here again. Prepare to visit Mega City One and get to know Judge Dredd. I do hope this movie does the character justice.

Not many video games lately. I was in the mood this week for some Battlefield 3 action. Downloaded the new Close Quarters DLC and enjoying that. Mass Effect has also announced this week the new Leviathan DLC and it looks interesting.
