A Great Visit

Another awesome days with Natalia and a good week. Friday Natalia and I went to see my grandmother (Natalia's great grandmother) for a few hours and she still looks the same as good as years prior. I hope she remains in California much longer to see her more often. Natalia enjoyed herself playing in the many unique musical instruments my uncle has in his house.

This weekend I kept this new tradition of dressing up our desert in a fun way with toys and a theme. This week Hulk decided to "Hulk Stomp" our pie (pictured), while the next day some Lego soldiers were caught stealing some mini eclairs. Also Natalia received some great Star Wars toys and a very nice book from someone at church that knows she loves that stuff. She was gifted Ukulele Jim: The Jumping Flea Circus by friend and illustrator of the book, Patrick Scullin.

Finished reading Forever Free and I knew going in that it was not a great story but wanted to read it for myself. Not even close to the great Forever War story. Now to decide what book will be my next read. Either more American history, science fiction or fantasy? On the comic book front, this week Civil War II started and thus far the first book is not bad.

This past week I have been playing two main games over and over again. I have been hooked to the Lord of the Rings LCG and Elder Sign. This week looking forward to the new Warhammer Quest Silver Tower game which I pre-order and will cost me a pretty penny.

My current work has been very rewarding for me and one I have pleasure doing as it helps my in many levels. A job I hope now to continue to do for years to come if able. I still need more services to put myself at ease with the routines.

Honor and Freedom?

I have been slowly getting adjusted to my new routine with the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard and finally have a job I am proud of and having the honor to do. Getting used to the procedures and still meeting new people whom are also part of this honorable detail.

As usual Natalia wants to stay home and come straight home to relax and play. Lately, Play-Doh is her favorite and she is getting good at making many things. Also still getting many games to the table with her and by myself when she is not with me. Lately I am getting into the Lord of the Rings LCG game until the many cool games I am looking forward to playing get released. So many cool games slated for release this year.

I do not watch many movies or television at all lately but watched the Deapool movie this past week and I had no real hopes for it and was surprised it kept me watching the whole time. I do wish it was more true to his origins.

Finished reading an alternate history of John F. Kennedy and it was ok for a book and shows us how much different our world could have been. Now moving on back to sci-fi with Forever Free, a sequel to Forever War which I really liked. This book is not as highly praised but I liked the original story. Not many comic books this month. The new Moon Knight and Old Man Logan still are of interest as well as the Dark Knight Master Race series. Punisher got a new series and very disappointed. Now on to Civil War 2 which I have no idea on the back story and probably won't care much. Marvel has gotten far too politically correct and fallen for all this bullshit this government has caused.

Managed to go out for a mountain bike ride last Sunday with "Oh-Oh" Richie and "Ravioli" Riz and as always a great time. Afterwards hooked up with RC for lunch. I hope to go back out on another ride soon with my people.

Rant: This past week the FDA decided to destroy the cigar industry in the name of protecting the children. Seems any cigar blend after 2007 will be banned in a few weeks. This of course puts the real struggle on the retailers and the consumers now will suffer as we see this administration cutting on our freedom and liberties by restricting what we can consume. Of course the manufacturers will possibly go out of business very fast as so many will have no products to sell. Funny of all is minors don't go to a cigar shop and pay $10+ for a cigar. Never even crossed anyone's mind, but I think the FDA saw this as a profitable way for them to make more money by forcing manufacturers to pay outrageous fees to maybe get their blends approved in 1-2 years. The feel they should take money and maybe or maybe not approve blends, it is their call. Hmmm, can we say bribes are welcomed? What is outrageous is the gateway that is the vaping phenomenon. This of course only affects a tiny sector but what if they decide to tell you what and how much to drink? Oh, sorry New York has that.

Fishing, Gaming, Legos, Oh My!

A great few days with Natalia as usual. Friday was Lego and game night. I made an impromptu "Lego" cake and played with the Lego castle (from my childhood) which took me 2 nights to complete. The castle was being attacked by Stormtroppers but it didn't fall. Later we cleared out the table and played two games from my haul this month. We played Loot N Run, which Natalia liked as well as My First Stone Age. Both great fun quick games that we both enjoyed. Also Blokus was back on the table ad I managed to win one game.

Saturday we woke up late and headed out to the Arrowbear fishing derby, Natalia practiced for hours her casting and we had a great time out there for hours. In the end she won a raffle prize, a Spider-Man fishing pole. As we headed back to the main area I noticed a few people lending a hand to person whom passed out. My corpsman skills were put to the test (not really). As I tend to run across this often. Turns out this person gave blood earlier and didn't hydrate or ate, just downed coffee and "energy" drinks, not a good combination. Soon paramedics were called to write it up.

Earth day was this week as with many made up days. I took this weekend as my weekend to plant a few items around the house and Have Natalia start a bunch of seeds in small containers. I do hope many come up as I don't have much luck.

Finished reading The Castle  in Transylvania and I rather enjoyed the book. A book published in 1889 which talked about electricity and communications via cable. Now I am back to another Kurt Vonnegut book in Timequake and thus far a good smooth read. On the gaming end this week a few games have hit my big game table. Been playing Suburbia and a fun game to layout and play when bored. Also been playing the new Captain America Legendary set and trying out the new cars and so far rather fun as always.

Natalia lately has been wanting to read to me more and more and Saturday night she read to me Green Eggs and Ham with no problems and emphasizing question and exclamation marks. I am so proud that in a short time she can read so effortlessly.

This past week was my second week as part of the Funeral Honors Guard and still getting into the rhythm and getting used to many of the basic military drills and procedures. I will say thus far I find this very honorable and good for me to be doing. I just hope my pay issues start to get worked out soon, but I know how lazy some are in doing their work.

Continuing To Honor The Uniform

This week was another week of change in my life as I am not doing the job I have been doing the past months as often and having to pick up the slack elsewhere and I started driving Uber and Lyft. I will say it is somewhat of a waste but I will experiment with it in hopes it puts spending cash in my hands for our toys. I laugh as they are doing major recruiting in the area and claiming you can make thousands. Nope. Thus far no bad experiences and everything is nice and smooth. 

Drill weekend don and I had to make the drive both days for medical and our PFA (Physical Fitness Assessment). Hope this one doesn't "get lost". No such thing as honor, courage and commitment by many sailors lately. More like, "I don't care", "Not responsible" or plain old, "I don't want to work". Again this month I see the retirement of two sailors from the unit whom served this country with honor for over 20 years as well as another corpsman I served with in the San Francisco area. I continue to serve and honor our country, uniform, job and tradition. With that being said I finally made the decision to joining the funeral honors detail and have been doing services all week after a quick Navy "left seat/right seat" training. Get the basics down but every service has its challenges and differences. This is something I like as I am able to adapt and have that skill. Also a way for me to still honor the job and inside I feel very good for what I am doing. I hope to very soon get all the aspects down as I hope to do this for years to come if possible.

Finished reading the Farmer Boy which is the third book in the Little House on the Prairie novels and thus far it is the least liked one for me. This week I received The Castle in Transylvania, which is a rare translation of a Jules Verne book and Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut and I have high hopes for both these books.

Another few days with Natalia last week and staying home as always with some rainy weather all weekend. Playing inside the house all day and having a great time together playing Legos mainly.

Sad Dad Bad Had

Another week gone and one of possible changes again. I can say with the ups and downs lately I have gotten more and more comfortable with the unknown, So Thursday I headed out with Yuli for a nice walk in my "front yard" or "back yard", I get them confused. Took some nice pictures and it was a nice quiet outing. A nice day after the snowstorms earlier this week , where much was melted off. Friday I picked up Natalia early and headed up early and started a much needed weekend with her.

Last week I didn't see Natalia and decided with so much time in my hands now, to go on a mountain bike ride on Easter Sunday and it was a very nice ride as usual with great company. Along the ride we had to ask ourselves and do a double take as we rode past one of the mega churches that looks more like a huge warehouse where there were 3 water tanks outside by tents offering baptisms. It simply amazes me that religion has come to this - "Baptism for number 078". Another thing to point our is the signs around Riverside and the railroad tracks telling people what actually goes on a railroad track and to stay away. First, seems people nowadays have no idea what the tracks are for and worse we are told to stay away, because you know, terrorism. Please!

Saturday the local library had Superhero day and we all went our and had a great time in the activities and later hit up some antique shops and thrift store in the mountain.

Finally finished two books this week. Time and Again, my main read that I had much hopes for was just rather boring. The other book that was a rather quick read was New Found Land, the journal of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This one I liked and learned much from it and now am interested in reading more. No idea what to read next but waiting for a few used books to arrive soon.

Not much gaming this week other than Thunderbirds where I finally got the hang of it and winning at the basic level. However I have been playing some video games with Natalia together and we have been having a great time getting through the Star Wars Disney Infinity game together.

 I start the week in the unknown and with possible changes right away. Also some rain expected, of course after I washed the car. Springs is also here with the many tulips in my home starting to make their way out and the daffodils around town already in bloom.

  

Am I In My Spring?

Spent 5 days with Natalia and we had some great fun as usual. This week it was my 43rd birthday and I always look forward to my time with Natalia and my yearly picture. My birthday marks St. Patrick's day the day after and a date that will forever affect me as it was ironically the day my life was changed overnight 5 years ago. This week also marks the beginning of Spring. My birthday was actually on Wednesday and to not go too much into it, it was a bad day for me. For some reason such signature dates tend to have bad things. I waited to Friday to celebrate with Natalia. Some nice presents and a nice cake and as always a nice day overall. Got me another board game (more on that later), some shoes to last me forever and some clothing. Oh, can't forget Master Yoda for Natalia.

Natalia and I got addicted to the Disney Infinity game and played through a whole Toy Box disc and we had a great time doing it together. Also played a few levels of Super Mario Bros. along with our usual board games.  

This week I have been at home all week, mainly playing games and cleaning up. I have been playing for days Warhammer Adventure Card Game and it has been kicking my butt. I have as of yet to complete the first scenario. Not much reading and I hope I get back on that mode to get some books finished. My recent read I find it boring but it is very hard for me to give up on a book. Also this week I made a rather quick baby blanket. The blanket for no one in particular as I like to do these lately and will save it for the future. 

Looking forward to a few games coming this year and seems every month another one is announced that has me excited. Recently Games Workshop has announced Lost Patrol and Blood Bowl reprint. Lost Patrol a 2 player game but I will make it a solo game one way or another. Also, this week I backed my first Kickstarter game. Nothing expensive as it was just a pre-order for the Goonies game. 

Now, sitting here missing Natalia as it tends to happen when I have so much time to think alone. Also again planning a solo road trip that as usual tends to get canceled due to something always coming up or lack of funds. This time out to northern Arizona to do a run through Monument Valley and visit the reservations and swing by to see my best friend. 

Snowstorm and Ghostbusters

Old Man Winter has not yet left the area and he came hitting early this week with 8" of snow and later in the week a few more flakes. This lead to some nifty driving in my part to get to my house, but in the end I got it stuck blocking the road. The neighbor helped get me in my driveway and in turn I cleared out his driveway. Such problems are what mountain living is about. Natalia did enjoy some of the left over snow after a huge melt off during the week. Again this weekend I have been using my smoker for our dinners and this whole weekend Natalia has been wanting to play Bad Beets again.

This week I will have to start shopping for car tires, a new water heater and to make matters worse my engine light went on possibly marking a bad catalytic converter. I did change one of the O2 sensors in hope that was possibly the problem but thus far nothing. Of course as usual I have no funds, but I will have to budget some tires very soon.

Not much reading this week as I have been finding my latest read rather boring. I will keep plowing through it hoping it is more to my liking. However, I have been playing quite a bit of solo board games this week. Slowly moving through the whole Ghostbusters campaign and still trying to succeed in the Thunderbirds game. This week I received Rogue Trooper Volume 2 and looking forward to continue the story of his battles on Nu-Earth.

This weekends food? Smoked tri tip with my rosemary rub and some baby back ribs. The first time my ribs came out good. Now Ill be more confident.

Decisions and Another Tooth!

Lots has happened since the last post. First off, Natalia lost her second tooth this past week and she again was not scared at all. We all received another visit from the Tooth Fairy. I have made yet another life changing decision and hope it was for the est of everyone involved. Because of this I was able to go with Natalia to one of her field trips to the Discover Center and spend the day with her. She had fun and it was a great time for all.

Weather wise, earlier this week it was warmer and my tulips are all starting to come out and Saturday we are seeing the colder weather rolling in with possible snow Monday and cooler temperatures during the week and more possible snow next weekend. Winter is always up here until around May.

Started yet another hobby. As if I needed other ways to spend money. Been putting together "no sew" blankets and I find it relaxing. Just finished my 3rd and looking forward to my next. The last one I made not my choice but made it for a friend that loves the Walking Dead show.

Finished reading the Paul Revere book and found it very informative. Slowly started my new book Time and Again and no idea what the story will be like. Slowly still reading the classic Fantastic Four collections #3 and like all those older stories. Also still reading the current release comics I pick up every Wednesday, and this week it was Old Man Logan and the new Life and Death Predator.

I picked up a few good games on sale and been playing those pretty much non stop for days. So far all are fun and keep keeping me entertained. I picked up the new Ghostbusters game, the Thunderbirds game, Cowboys The Way of the Gun and Bad Beets. I have been posting my geeky pictures on Facebook. Also, not to forget, I played a few scenarios of Space Hulk with no success and The Legend of Drizzt Game. I am already eye balling some more powerful Space Marines and finding rules for them to walk the hulk. Overall it has been a big solo board gaming week for me.

Tooth Fairy Visit

Natalia's tooth finally fell off and I was starting to worry. She did not get scared at all and is very happy. She is showing everyone her new smile and it is very pretty. The Tooth Fairy made a visit to our house Friday night and left Natalia a little gift here and at her grandparents house. This coming weekend will be me and Yuli as I am not lucky enough to have Natalia with me.

I will say this past weekend has been a weekend of huge change for me again and lessons learned. I probably move on again in another chapter and walk into it with no solid plans and you may say limbo. Or perhaps things continue the same with some minor changes either way not sure. Never have wanted this feeling of uncertainty but I feel once we can overcome this feeling we become much stronger inside.

Finally a turn in the weather with lower temperatures and some rain last week and the cooler temperatures sticking around for a while. Spring like temperatures are here and my tulips all over the house are starting to come up.

Finished reading Faust and now decided to read The Revolutionary Paul Revere next. Been reading a bit of comics lately and finished the whole Rogue Trooper Volume 1 and really enjoyed it. This week I picked up the new reboot of Power Man and Iron Fist as well as the new Bill And Ted Go To Hell mini series #1. Also looking to start reading Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Dark Knight III Master Race is the new series and I have very high hopes for this new series. First volume and already looking forward to the next one. I will say, all my new reads I will follow and hope for a good stories.

Rant: Why is the president of the United States in talk shows promoting and doing ads in a sense? This should be unacceptable and illegal. We already know our government s for sale, but please don't throw it on our face. Do your job and honor its position.

Out With The Girls

Natalia and I spent 4 great days together in another warm week up here with maybe some rain late this week. Spring like temperatures have me already looking in the gardening departments. I know I better wait as we still have more winter left. This Friday Natalia and I hit up some shops and I wanted to make her a blanket and she wouldn't budge on the Star Wars Darth Vader design. So I made her the blanket Saturday afternoon. Also Natalia wanted to go out for a walk with Yuli and who can say no to that? Off we went on a nice quiet walk in the woods. Overall a quiet lazy weekend at home cooking on my new electric smoker and trying to nurse a cold.

Been reading a few graphic novels and as I knew, I may be getting hooked in reading Sandman Vol 1. Also been reading some Judge Dredd titles as well as Rogue Trooper Tales of Nu-Earth Vol 1. Read Judge Dredd Vs. Aliens Vs. Predator and I will say I was not disappointed. How is this not a movie yet? (I know licensing rights). This week picked up Black Jack Ketchum and Old Man Logan at the comic book store. No more picking up the many super hero titles with bad story lines if any at all. As far as books. As far as classic comic book reads, this week I read Fantastic Four #50. I will say the run from 45-50 is probably one of the best in comic books. I have been slowly reading Faust by Goethe. A challenging book for me but one I think I have to read a few times over the years.

This weekend I played a few games of the Rogue Trooper game to learn it and I do like this game. Now I have my eyes out on other older games like Judge Dredd. Not any other games played this weekend other than a bit of Disney Infinity with Natalia.
